Red Dead Redemption 2 Review

After investing over 40 hours into this game I thought it’d make a heck of a lot of sense to put together a Red Dead Redemption 2 review.

Red Dead Redemption 2 review – Wild west money–making

One of the biggest grey areas of the game, but not one that’ll down vote my Red Dead Redemption 2 review is surrounding how Arthur Morgan makes money while traversing the Wild west. There are a variety of ways you can make money with the most common being looting fallen enemies and getting your cut for completing a mission. Selling horses, wagons, and items is going to earn you money, while you’ll also be rewarded by completing various side-missions. The only problem is while you will earn fast and often you will find the amount you make isn’t worth writing homer about too often. Unless you pull off a big bank job or locate a gold bar to sell at a fence you will often find your dollars mount up slower than you’d like.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Trinkets And Talismans

If you get tired of trying too grind, you could always attempt the Red Dead redemption 2 money glitch.

To me the money-making in red Dead 2 isn’t an issue at all, it just means you have to grind a little if you want to buy new weapons, horses, and upgrade your existing gear.

Red Dead Redemption 2 review – Traversing the map

Much like the original red Dead Redemption you will do the majority of travelling on your horse, you’re essentially a cowboy anyway so that works. As you move from town to town you will see that your mini-map will show an envelope symbol in larger towns while there’ll be a signpost which depicts the Stagecoach in smaller towns.

Both of these modes of transport will come in handy, and although they come at a cost it’s a worthwhile investment. Stagecoach’s will take you to anywhere that you have visited previously with the Stagecoach signpost, and the train will take you longer distances – but again only to places that have an envelope that you’ve already visited. There’s more detail in our red Dead redemption 2 fast travel guide.

Red Dead Redemption 2 review – Big ol bounties

Although bounties can be annoying, this our mention of law-enforcement within our Red Dead Redemption 2 review. Steal, kill, or get caught doing anything illegal by the cowboy fuzz and you will find that area is highlighted red on your main map depicting the fact that the law will come after you if they spot you in that area. You can however pay bounties off by visiting the envelope (Post Office) where you’d normally get the train from, but often the bounty will be higher than the money you have available to you.

There’s also snitches dotted around in the world, and if they see you killing someone or stealing a horse they will sprint to call the police (unless you take them out before they can).

Red Dead Redemption 2 review – It all began at camp

The Vanderlinde gang don’t like to stay in one spot for long – they can’t really with the law constantly on their tail. When they do setup camp though this will be Arthur Morgan’s safe haven, and there’ll be plenty for you to do here. Aside from initiating missions you will be able to grab a freshly brewed stew, get drunk on cases of beer, have a shave, take a nap, craft trinkets and most importantly upgrade your camp.

You will need to contribute what you earn from your missions to upgrade the facilities in camp such as a Chicken Coup, better food and medical supplies, and several other aspects to improve the well being of your camp mates. Personally I feel camp upgrades are more important than your weapons upgrades, and I believe you could complete the whole story without having to purchase new weapons (other than mandatory ones for the story), I only purchased the necessary items and just enjoyed playing the story.

Red Dead Redemption 2 review – Red Dead Online

There wasn’t too much of a gap between Red Dead 2 releasing and online mode being launched. I’m not going into too much online detail for my Red Dead Redemption 2 review, but in a nutshell it completely broadens the gameplay – if you just couldn’t get enough of the story then Red Dead Redemption 2 online won’t disappoint.

I've been a gamer ever since I was old enough to hold a controller, early 90's to be exact. My first console was a NES, with my favourite games ranging from Super Mario to Duck Hunt. Fast forward almost 30 years and I'm now a PS4, PC and Switch player. My ideal genres are RPG and RTS titles, so Assassin's Creed, Kingdom Hearts, Viv 6 and Two Point Hospital are included in my mix.

Have your say!
