PC might be the way to go if you’re looking for an awesome graphics experience while gaming, but for preorders for the Borderlands 3 Epic Games Store version you might feel at a slight loss. When Borderlands 3 launches across all platforms next month, PC players are going to have to wait a little longer than they might have hoped.

Borderlands 3 Epic Games Store, what’s the problem?

Last week we saw the Borderlands 3 Epic Games Store version go gold in anticipation for its September 13th launch next month. Borderlands 3 is only launching on Epic for PC, to begin with, and will not release on Steam until April next year.

Time Sweeney from Epic Games replied to a tweet stating that Borderlands 3 ordered via the Epic Games Store will not support preloading before the game launches. In other words, if you want to download the core files in readiness for the midnight launch, that’s only going to be possible for players on other platforms.

Sweeney states that the Epic Games Store is not “up to the demands of a blockbuster like Borderlands.”, even though preloading support is in place for most other upcoming releases. In other words, if you’ve gone for the Borderlands 3 Epic Games Store version preorder, you’ll have to wait until midnight before you can start your download. It’s a bit of an odd scenario in our opinion, considering the launch of the Epic Game Store last year has seen some blockbuster titles releasing, and having no issues with the ability to support game preloads.

Google Stadia, Xbox One and PS4 will also have a Borderlands 3 release, all of which will support the function to allow the preload of the game.

I've been a gamer ever since I was old enough to hold a controller, early 90's to be exact. My first console was a NES, with my favourite games ranging from Super Mario to Duck Hunt. Fast forward almost 30 years and I'm now a PS4, PC and Switch player. My ideal genres are RPG and RTS titles, so Assassin's Creed, Kingdom Hearts, Viv 6 and Two Point Hospital are included in my mix.

Have your say!
