I’d love to say it was a surprise having the far Cry 6 release date revealed during Ubisoft’s Forward event, but following several leaks ahead of the event we now have the news of the new title confirmed.

When is the Far Cry 6 release date?

far Cry 6 is set for a launch on February 18th 2021, and it’ll arrive on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Google Stadia simultaneously.

Far Cry 6 will follow the footsteps of its predecessors in the series, set in a fictional land known as Yara, essentially in the middle of the Caribbean. Yara has been built to resemble some locations from South America, although Ubisoft hasn’t directly told us that. Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito plays the president of Yara called Anton Castillo, and he clearly shows us his leadership stance in the first trailer which you can check out below, teaching his son a bullish lesson. Anthony Gonzalez (from Coco) plays his son Diego.

Along with the Far Cry 6 release date, we got a little taste of the storyline surrounding President Castillo and how he was elected into the role along with his idea to build up a paradise-looking civilisation. As you’ll see from the trailer, Castillo’s plans aren’t going quite as expected. Following years of economic sanctions, the country of Yara has been left in as an area facing poverty and its residents are struggling to survive. This way of life has divided the citizens and has left them uncertain of what their future holds, which, considering a slave state was the plan for rebuilding the country through Castillo’s eyes, doesn’t look great.

As you’d expect, a band of rebels has risen to fight back at Castillo, and you’ll be taking the role of one of these said Guerilla rebels in the form of Danny Rojas. Danny Rojas can be either male or female depending on your preference, and as a far cry first, your character will be entirely visible during cinematic scenes and various narrative elements, a welcome change for the franchise. You take the reigns of a character who has flunked out of the military, trying to understand their purpose and where they reside among the other guerilla fighters, getting to know what drives them and makes them tick.

As another welcome addition, we’ll get to use the Fangs for hire feature once again, with several animal companions to buddy up with. One of the first companions is a cute little sausage dog known as Chorizo, hopefully, the first of many.

Far Cry 6 is currently in the works at Ubisoft Toronto, and it’s hyped up to provide one of the most detailed worlds of the entire far cry franchise yet. You’ll explore the entire country of Yara which will include visiting beaches, in-depth jungles, rural locations and urban locations like Esperanza’s capital city.

Aside from the Far Cry 6 release date, there’ll be plenty more news rolling out over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes posted until you get to play the title on February 18th next year.

I've been a gamer ever since I was old enough to hold a controller, early 90's to be exact. My first console was a NES, with my favourite games ranging from Super Mario to Duck Hunt. Fast forward almost 30 years and I'm now a PS4, PC and Switch player. My ideal genres are RPG and RTS titles, so Assassin's Creed, Kingdom Hearts, Viv 6 and Two Point Hospital are included in my mix.

Have your say!
