Super Mario Maker 2 physical copy sales: an amazing start vs. first game

As soon as we saw the Super Mario Maker 2 live-stream announced by Nintendo, many of us knew how awesome this sequel was going to be knowing it would build on the original game. Now though we have the Super Mario Maker 2 physical copy sales figures in to show that during it’s first week, the game has already doubled the amount of units sold in comparison to the first game.

The Super Mario Maker 2 physical copy sales do speak for themselves in the fact that most reviews that are coming in, including the one from Gamesradar are giving very close to perfect scores for the game. Most of us (including me) are loving the new features added to build upon the original game – which was great already to be fair.

It’s worth noting that Super Mario Maker was originally launched for Wii U which didn’t perhaps take off as much as the Switch. Nonetheless the Super Mario Maker 2 physical copy sales have smashed it out of the park and soared to the top of the charts in the UK.

Super Mario Maker 2 physical copy sales – how the charts look

  1. Super Mario Maker
  2. Crash Team Racing
  3. F1 2019
  4. Judgment
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  6. Rooty Dooty Tooty 2-ty
  7. GTA5
  8. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  9. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
  10. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The guys over at Nintendo HQ are certainly rubbing their hands together as it’s not just the Super Mario Maker 2 physical copy sales that have hit the charts. Smash Bros. Ultimate has rejoined the top ten while Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild have also moved up the charts.

Last week we saw the release of Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, which immediately jumped to first place, but the Super Mario Maker 2 physical copy sales have since stolen that golden spot.

How long Super Mario Maker 2 can hold this place for is a  mystery, but it’s got every chance of holding another week seeing as there’s no AAA titles releasing just yet.

I've been a gamer ever since I was old enough to hold a controller, early 90's to be exact. My first console was a NES, with my favourite games ranging from Super Mario to Duck Hunt. Fast forward almost 30 years and I'm now a PS4, PC and Switch player. My ideal genres are RPG and RTS titles, so Assassin's Creed, Kingdom Hearts, Viv 6 and Two Point Hospital are included in my mix.

Have your say!
