Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Demo Showcases Medusa Battle, It Looks Epic

And we're not taking the hiss
Assassin's Creed Odyssey Demo-medusa

In a new hour long Assassin’s Creed Odyssey demo shown at Gamescom this week players were wowed with one notable addition that differs to the other games in the franchise; an awesome fight with the snake-haired creature dubbed Medusa.

Over the course of the previous Assassin’s Creed games a huge fight with a mythological creature like Medusa wouldn’t have been something we’d have expected to see. The Legendary Hercules, sure you probably would have, an appearance while roaming the caves of the Uncharted franchise, maybe, but not Assassin’s Creed. The developers are usually deeply concerned with the game’s history being on parr so this is surprisingly out of character.

There’s always been plenty of myths and old-wives tale stories throughout the Assassin’s Creed series but they’ve never taken it quite to this extent.

Following on from the events of Assassin’s Creed Origins it seems Odyssey is really going to take advantage of the ancient time period. The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey demo looks to feature the legends that we’ve all heard about and explain their traits to relate to the franchise’ own civilization.

What’s interesting from the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey demo is that the game takes place before the original brotherhood was even a thing. Fans questioned Ubisoft on why Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is named so as it doesn’t actually have any Assassins to boot. Ubisoft swiftly responded stating that Oddyssey focuses more on the methodical elements of the game that have been built up over the past ten years.

How does the Medusa fight happen in the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Demo?

In typical assassin’s Creed fashion you’ll of course need to level up to be able to steadily take down the snake-haired creature. You’ll have to roam various islands in Athens to complete various missions as well as gain intel on where you’ll actually need to go to find her.

Many have stated that the combat system in Odyssey is one of the most complex yet, which to me means going head to head with someone who can turn you into stone with her eyes isn’t going to be the easiest task.

Ubisoft has stated there won’t be another Assassin’s Creed title coming in 2019 which tells us they’re putting some hard graft into making this one extra special if we’ve gotta wait over a year for the next one.

I've been a gamer ever since I was old enough to hold a controller, early 90's to be exact. My first console was a NES, with my favourite games ranging from Super Mario to Duck Hunt. Fast forward almost 30 years and I'm now a PS4, PC and Switch player. My ideal genres are RPG and RTS titles, so Assassin's Creed, Kingdom Hearts, Viv 6 and Two Point Hospital are included in my mix.

Have your say!
