With the vast realm of Civilization 6, its no surprise you’re looking for some cheats to help you on your way. Learn how the console works and you’ll be on your way to victory in no time. Read on and we’ll reveal all (not quite as much as the map reveal cheat might).
How to access the Civ 6 cheats console
Do bear in mind that the Civ 6 cheats console is only accessible on PC, although the trading glitches are available to test out for those on Xbox One and PS4.
Civilization 6 has a built-in debug menu, but in order to use it, you’ll need to adjust a few files to get it up and running. On a Windows PC with the game already installed, head to the directory \Documents\My Games\Sid Meier’s Civilization VI folder, or wherever you installed the game and look for a filed named AppOptions.txt. Right-click and edit the file with Notepad and search for the entry called “EnableDebugMenu 0” and amend it to read “EnableDebugMenu 1”. Once you’ve done that hit save and close the editor.
Open up the game and you’ll be able to access the Civ 6 cheats console by pressing the tilde key (the one that has the symbol of ~). You’ll see a bar appear at the top of your screen where you can begin typing cheat codes or commands, and you should also see the debug menus are accessible using a couple of arrows on the bar. Any commands you’ve already entered are brought up using the up arrow, with the Debug view menu accessible by pressing the down arrow. Informational reports are the main thing available here, but you can use the option to Show the Time of Day which brings up a slider which allows you to change the lighting effects and adjust the time as required.
The Civ 6 cheats console doesn’t provide too many more options, with only a couple of the following commands confirmed as functional.
- Set the entire map to explored – Explore All
- Show all of the map – Reveal All
using the Civilization 6 trading glitch
Along with the ability to use the Civ 6 cheats console on PC, console players have discovered a bunch of trading glitches to obtain massive surges in resources and gold. Recent patches and updates have attempted to nerf these glitches, so if you want these to work you’ll need to play an older version of the game.
To use the glitches, you’ll need to use an AI opponent and propose a trade, offering as much gold as you can afford and either luxury or strategic resources and choose the ”What will you give me for this” option. Then, in return for the resource, the AI will offer you heaps of gold each turn.
The alternative to this method is asking the AI opponent for something you’d like, and then keep providing gold with each turn until the deal is fulfilled. Now, keep decreasing your offering of gold until you are still below the agreed amount but as close as possible to it. Choose the option ”Make this trade equitable”. A minimal gold each turn is then requested from the AI, which equates to the difference between the offer and proposed total.
Opening the Civ 6 trainer
If you’re looking for how to access the main Civilization 6 cheats then the only way is by adding them manually as they don’t come bundled officially with the game package. Head over to the Civilization 6 WeMod trainer page to obtain the installer, allowing you to get access to a variety of cheats like unlimited movement, fair, gold and resources. This method also speeds up the in-game process like constructions, recruitment and research.
