The Pokemon Company & Tencent are developing a new Pokemon game!

Seeing the huge success of Pokemon Go and the recently released Harry Potter: Wizards Unite mobile game, it seems that Tencent has got a taste for that success and might be working on a brand new Pokemon game of its own. Following a statement which was posted in a tweet stating that the TIMI Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent have teamed up with The Pokemon Company to develop the currently nameless Pokemon title.

What the new Pokemon game COULD be

The games industry knows that free-to-play titles are Tencent’s strong point with TIMI following these same traits. Arena of Valor is one of the mobile games currently sitting under TIMI’s belt which is also available for Nintendo Switch. Call of Duty Mobile is one of the larger-scale projects the developers are currently bringing to the world. Call of Duty Mobile will be a F2P title when it arrives in 2019, although there are strong chances microtransactions will have involvement somewhere.

There’s nothing right now to suggest the new Pokemon game as definitely going to be mobile-only, or free to play for that matter. We could well be seeing something appearing on console screens for all we know, considering TIMI has already ported Arena of Valor onto a console.

Exactly what this new Pokemon game is going to be could be pretty interesting, considering Pokemon Go already has the MOBO bases covered, Pokemon Let’s Go is in full swing, Pokemon Sword and Shield is on their way, and Pokemon Masters has just been unveiled. What else is there to do? Clearly, something else is in the pipeline. Could we be looking at a new Pokemon Stadium-type title? What about a Pokemon Snap sequel? I mean that could work wonders with mobile phones and cameras! Keep your eyes on Star Struck Gaming, we’ll let you know when there’s more news.

I've been a gamer ever since I was old enough to hold a controller, early 90's to be exact. My first console was a NES, with my favourite games ranging from Super Mario to Duck Hunt. Fast forward almost 30 years and I'm now a PS4, PC and Switch player. My ideal genres are RPG and RTS titles, so Assassin's Creed, Kingdom Hearts, Viv 6 and Two Point Hospital are included in my mix.

Have your say!
